DBTK x MONDAYSUCK

by Lisa Dela Rosa |

Small steps could lead to big opportunities.

Mondaysuck is a streetwear brand based out in San Diego, California, that Vince Kids stumbled upon on Instagram wayback 2017, and he became a fan ever since.

To his surprise, he saw how the Filipino culture was represented in the brand, from a Jollibee parody tee, to a jeepney design, and the like, mixed with a streetwear vibe. Little did he know that the owner and creative director of Mondaysuck is actually Filipino.

This sparked Vince Kids and Emil Kids to connect with Orcino Tan (owner and creative director of Mondaysuck), not necessarily for a collaboration, but introduce DBTK to him.

The first interaction with him was when DBTK interviewed him for a blog, which then also sparked the possibility of doing a collaboration in the future.

FIRST PARTNERSHIP: F&F FOUNDATION (CHARITY EVENT)
The purpose of this joint charity event is to give school supplies and feed 100+ kids

COMING INTO FRUITION: DBTK X MONDAYSUCK COLLECTION
This collaboration is actually 4 years in the making. It was planned last 2019, moved to 2020, then 2021, and finally, to 2022.

Looking for a perfect timing is a must, since it could make or break the outcome that the brands are hoping for.

That’s why in early 2022, Vince Kids reached out to Orcino Tan to tell that this was definitely the perfect time to push thru with the collaboration.

CONCEPT AND PROCESS BEHIND THE DBTK X MONDAYSUCK COLLABORATION

The concept revolved around sharing what is like to be a Filipino. So, it definitely highlighted the jeepney, tricycle, love for basketball, and the Manila vibes.

For the photoshoot, the locations were around Manila, such as Intramuros, Jones Bridge, Binondo, and Escolta.

Going back to these places also gave an homage to the roots of the brothers (Vince Kids & Emil Kids), since they studied in Letran wayback 2002-2008. These places gave them a trip down memory lane, from riding jeepneys, eating street food in Intramuros, to building relationships along the way.

Seeing this collaboration come to fruition is something that the brothers and Orcino Tan are really proud of, especially since they uphold the same value of instilling the culture and value, which will be shared to others.

So, watch out Kids for our collaboration dropping on November 26, at dbtkco.com, DBTK Flagship & Satellite stores, and mondaysuck.com
